SNORKELLING / FREE DIVING EXPERIENCE

Come and explore the underwater world, a snorkelling/free diving experience with Northland Outdoor Adventures (NOA) is a great way to learn some new skills to enjoy New Zealand’s subtropical marine environment. Or, for underwater enthusiasts an excellent opportunity to grab some gear and a knowledgeable local to show you some of our beautiful local reef systems during your stay.

  • Wet suit, mask/snorkel/fins are provided
  • Transport is available for small to medium groups (if a single or couple please just enquire)
  • Beach directions will be provided (so can local accommodation options)
  • Tour duration onsite is 2 to 2.5 hours including skills instruction and safety briefing

    • Northlands east coast is blessed with a variety of protected bays, islands and headlands providing many options for sheltered safe snorkelling and free diving for all levels of experience and ages from 12 y/o and up. Subtropical and temperate ocean systems are some of the most abundant marine ecosystems on the planet and Northern New Zealand has a rich and diverse marine environment. Explore lively kelp forests and meet the many inhabitants. See angel fish, red moki and butter fish cruising the reef, feed the friendly leather jackets a kina (sea egg) or even try one yourself! Gentle short tailed rays sunning themselves on the sand and spiky red crayfish peeking out of their holes await you. Our lead guide is a PADI Divemaster and has spent 10 years teaching marine ecology so you are in safe hands and have the opportunity to learn about the many life forms you will encounter along the way. These tours typically operate along the stunning Matauri bay to Mahinepua coastline (approx. 1 hr north of Paihia). Pop up for the day or even better come and stay in the area, it has so much to see and do. Relax on uncrowded beaches after the dive, your Northland Outdoor Adventure lies waiting.
